Moments after I posted the news about the special meeting tomorrow morning to evaluate the superintendent, the Daily Pilot reported what John Caldecott has been trying to tell the board for a year: They have been paying an already high-salaried employee even more money to keep him from retiring.

Yes, folks, you read it correctly: Deputy Supt. Paul Reed is the only person in the entire world who can do his job. So they used your hard-earned tax dollars to keep him happy.

It’s a sweet deal for Reed: All he has to is hint at retirement and the board throws more money his way.
