Since my post from earlier today, I have had some thoughts to share…

If fields at Fairview Park are so important to the school board, why are they sending only a rookie board member to represent them? They’ll tell you that since the park is in Vicki Snell’s zone, that she should represent the board.

But that’s not the real reason. The real reason is that the other board members and the superintendent are keeping as far away from this hot potato as they can. They don’t want to get their hands dirty with the fields issue, so they are throwing Snell under the bus.

How do I know this is true? Because I attended all of the on-site meetings regarding fences at three schools and attended the meetings to explain the new solar energy program. At each of these meetings, none of which was nearly as controversial as tonight’s, there were at least three board members present, plus members of the staff.

For those easy meetings, there is a good school board and staff turnout. For the tough stuff, however, they choose to hide.

Supt. Navarro and board president Fluor should attend the meeting tonight. They signed the letter and they should be there. And they should bring the appropriate staff. But they won’t, because they know that the overwhelming majority of Costa Mesans don’t want fields at Fairview Park and they do not want to face the heat.
