In Portland, Ore., a public K-12 school can raise $10,000. After that, 30 cents out of every dollar is “required to go to the citywide foundation and be reallocated to grants for other schools in need.” (source: National Education Access Network, undated)

In other words, the parents of the schools with greater means wind up supporting those with fewer resources.

I am opposed to sharing PTA funds. I believe that the money raised by a school should stay in that school, unless they want to share. But it should be their choice and not a requirement.
